Nature Technology Humanity

I am inclined to agree with group discussion regarding cultural lag. Technoloy moves ahead so fast that we tend to lag behind. Also in viewing the meatrix video on last evening, it depicted technology to double, triple produce beef and chicken. So much so that in some instances some farm animals are so mass produced that their feet never touch the ground. As a result of this technology, nature is altered and humans digest harmful things to the body. In the last movie an architect suggested that he "lived in what he created," but what do you do about beyond what you have created?

Hi Brenda,

Technology has developed a world of wonders in our society. I was extremely amazed by the video that was shown in class. Few "true" farms and farmers remain. We live in a microwave society. People want things right now! Factories are the same way. Cows, chickens, pigs, and the like are all in mass production. I'm sure this is a direct reflection and a direct correlation on childhood obesity and early on-set of development in our youth, specifically our young girls. Have we forgotten about the importance of health? Do you think that the new president will address any of these problems? I can only pray and hope that he will. Yes, I'm referring to Obama so that there's no assuming. "It's time for a change..."

Unintended consequence of technology. Your question at the end is deep, and I hope I am able to answer at the end of this semester.

Brenda,
The joy of having "stuff" and having it in abundance has driven society in the wrong direction. We want better cuts of meat so we inject hogs and place them in unsafe, unnatural environments to get more quicker and cheaper. My chioce is to have the best cut of meat but I also want it to be safe and healthy for me to consume. The thought that we have advanced to the point that what we do and the processes we put in place will be the destruction of our environment as well as the destruction of us is second nature to most. The video open my eyes to the need for more environmental commericals and public announcement. Politically that would not be the thing to do so we continue to do what benefits us for the present. The future is coming and we will not be ready nor will we be able to enjoy all the wonderful things we have now. The time to stop, think and change is here and each citizen has an obligation to reduce their foot print on earth. The sad part of the whole situation is "We don't need all this stuff anyway." It is killing us and we are killing the environment.
